When Do You Know She Is A South African Woman

A South African woman comes without airs and graces. Shoes are optional too. She never tires and is forever bustling about, forever on the move.

Her opinions will be loud and she will be defensive. She will debate with you through the night if need be. She will demand that you take her seriously, even if she laughs too often or pulls silly faces.

She will struggle with time and she’ll never be at your beg and call. You will find her wandering in and out of conversations with a mixed bag of people, and sometimes you’ll find her completely alone, completely at peace.

And, just as she breathes excitement into your life, her calmness will become your point of serenity too. In her company you will very rarely find yourself ill tempered. Her presence soothes and her patience lasts.

South African woman easily stifled when cooped up indoors, a South African needs room to stretch and sprawl. And, when the shadows creep overhead, she craves a radiance to match her own.

She will find every opportunity to tell stories about her country, her upbringing, and her country’s upbringing, whether the stories are hers to tell or ones that have been passed down to her.

She will express hope for South Africa, a desire so strong that you, through her eyes, will fall in love with South Africa too.

Because South Africa has shaped this beautiful woman. Her country has taught her to be tender and fearless. She goes about her work with rigor and she approaches the unfamiliar with open arms and an open mind. She listens with both ears and her heart.

Her spirit seeks new adventures, and she will find joy in pioneering a new path with you. The journey may fizzle and fork, or it may invigorate evermore. No matter the course, one thing is for sure… you will never forget your South African. - Katy Scot
